A. Yes. Each resident is given a front door key and a key for their room and are free to come and go as they please. Most houses also have a door entry system whereby residents can admit visitors without having to leave their room.

A. The charges cover rent, food, light, heat and support, in fact all daily living expenses. Rents range from £258 to £267 per week. You may be entitled to claim Housing Benefit and Supporting People Payments. The Housing Executive or Citizens Advice Bureau can provide advice.

A. You would usually move into an unfurnished room which is painted and carpeted. This allows you to bring your own furniture and treasured possessions.

A. Almost all houses have a phone point in each room. If you wish you can install a phone at your own expense. Most houses have a communal television. You can use your own TV in your room.

A. If a house is full there may be a waiting list.

A. Anyone over pensionable age who no longer feels able to cope or does not wish to live alone at home. Preference is given to applicants in greatest need.
